The Campus Area Bus Service (CABS) is a free transit service provided by The Ohio State University’s Transportation & Traffic Management. CABS is dedicated to providing clean, reliable and hassle-free transportation in and around The Ohio State University’s Columbus Campus.
As a Student Vehicle Operator, you will join more than 150 student and full-time drivers who provide compassionate and caring service to the five million passengers Campus Area Bus Service transports annually.
Student Vehicle Operators receive high-quality paid, in-class and on-road training. At the end of the training program, trainees will have the skills necessary to pass the State of Ohio, Class B - Commercial Driver License (CDL) test.
Campus Area Bus Service operates 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, allowing for flexibility when scheduling work shifts. Student shifts vary in length and time of day and are designed to work around the most common class schedules. While weekend and overnight shifts are not mandatory, they are available. Student employees should expect work between 15 and 28 hours per week.
Student Vehicle Operator pay starts at $8.30/hour while in the training program. Additional hours are available during the evenings working on the Service Crew, assisting in cleaning and fueling the fleet.
Once a Student Vehicle Operator obtains a Class B CDL, the rate of pay increases to $9.00/hour. Performance based raises may be provided annually.
A variety of advancement opportunities are available including Student Operations Supervisor and Student Trainer.
