Events to Cause Major Traffic, Parking, Bus Impacts Through Week of 8/19

Multiple events occurring through the week of August 19 will result in roadway restrictions and closures, heavy traffic, travel and bus service delays as well as increased demand for parking across campus. Motorists are encouraged to allow additional travel time and plan ahead. All are reminded to remain alert, stop distracting behaviors and keep safety in mind when traveling on campus.

Thursday, August 15: Early Arrival Student Move-In

Early Arrival Move-In will occur Thursday, August 15, from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. All faculty and staff are advised to arrive early to campus and not move their cars on August 15.

Road Closures / Restrictions

  • College Rd., between 12th Ave. and 11th Ave., will be southbound only.
  • Woodruff Ave., between Tuttle Park Pl. and College Rd., will be eastbound only.  
  • Westbound Woodruff Ave., between Fyffe Rd. and Tuttle Park Pl., will be restricted to one lane of traffic.
  • 12th Ave., between Neil Ave. and College Rd., will be eastbound only.
  • Eastbound Lane Ave., between Perry St. and High St., will be reduced to one lane.
  • Neil Ave., between Lane Ave. and the Lane Ave. Garage, will be closed.  Access to the Lane Ave. Garage will be maintained from Tuttle Park Place.
  • Fred Taylor Dr., from Ackerman Rd. to Lane Ave., will be closed to thru-traffic. 
    • Bus traffic and local traffic from Ackerman Road to Buckeye Village and the Buckeye Lots will be maintained.
    • Motorists needing access to the Child Care Center should take Olentangy River Road to westbound Ackerman Road and then onto southbound Defiance Drive.
  • Northbound Neil Ave., north of 9th Ave., will be restricted from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Westbound 11th Ave. will be closed west of High St.
  • Northbound Cannon Drive will be closed north of John Herrick Drive.
  • Major traffic delays on and around campus, including along Ackerman Rd., Lane Ave., High St., Woodruff Ave., Herrick Dr., 12th Ave. and Neil Ave. are anticipated.

CABS Bus Service

The following CABS stops will not be serviced during Early Move-In. Riders should anticipate delays during this time.

  • Campus Loop North - Knowlton Hall, Koffolt Lab, Stillman Hall.  Alternate stops are University Hall, RPAC.
  • Campus Loop South - Arps Hall, Blackburn House, Mason Hall.  Alternate stops are RPAC, University Hall.
  • Buckeye Village – University Hall, Arps Hall, Mason Hall, Blackburn House.  On central campus, riders should use the RPAC stop to access the route.
  • The Med Center Express will experience service delays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

 

 

Saturday, August 17: Student Move-In

Student Move-In will occur Saturday, August 17, from 6:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Central campus will be closed to all non-move-in traffic during this time. Significant traffic delays are anticipated. Motorists are strongly discouraged from driving through the campus area.

Road Closures / Restrictions

  • Officers will control traffic at major campus intersections and along the streets bordering campus.
  • University personnel working on move-in day are asked to plan for early arrival to campus to avoid peak traffic flow and to allow for delays in any movement on campus throughout the day. 

CABS  / COTA Bus Service

  • CABS will not operate during the day. 
  • Regular CABS service for autumn semester will resume on Saturday evening, Aug. 17, after move-in is complete.
  • COTA buses will be rerouted. Please visit COTA's website for additional information.

 

Saturday, August 17 - Sunday, August 18: Wonderbus Music and Arts Festival

The Wonderbus Music and Arts Festival will occur Saturday, August 17 – Sunday, August 18, at Chemical Abstracts, adjacent to the Ohio State campus. Student move-in will also occur on Saturday. Significant traffic delays are anticipated in and around the area. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead.

Road Closures / Restrictions

  • The Wonderbus Music and Arts Festival will occur Saturday, August 17 – Sunday, August 18, at Chemical Abstracts, adjacent to the Ohio State campus.
  • Student move-in will also occur on Saturday.
  • Significant traffic delays are anticipated in and around the area. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead.

 

Sunday, August 18: Student Involvement Fair

The Student Involvement Fair will occur Sunday, August 18. Please see below for an overview of travel impacts from 2 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Road Closures / Restrictions

The following roads will be closed from 2 p.m. - 9 p.m.:

  • College Rd., between 12th Ave. and Annie and John Glenn Ave.

CABS Bus Service

From 2 p.m. - 9 p.m., the OW route will continue south on High Street from Lane Avenue and west on 12th Avenue, and will not service Watts Hall, Stillman Hall and Ohio Union stops during this time.

 

Monday, August 19: Buck-I-Frenzy

Buck-I-Frenzy will occur Monday, August 19. Please see below for an overview of travel impacts from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Road Closures / Restrictions

Beginning at 11 a.m.:

  • Tuttle Park Pl. will close in both directions, south of the Tuttle Garage.
  • Annie and John Glenn Ave., west of Milliken Avenue, will close in both directions. No thru traffic will be permitted.

CABS Bus Service

Beginning at 8 a.m.:

The North Express and Buckeye Village CABS routes will not service the RPAC Plaza stop during this time. Commuters should plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

 

Tuesday, August 21: First day of Autumn Semester

As students return for autumn semester, additional vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle traffic is anticipated. All are reminded to remain alert, stop distracting behaviors and keep safety in mind when traveling on campus.
