For Severe Weather Awareness Week 2026 (March 15-21), Transportation and Traffic Management is providing this reminder of how CABS buses will operate during severe weather. The safety of the campus community is our number one priority. In the event of severe weather, Ohio State’s Department of Public Safety actively monitors and shares significant updates with the university community. If a tornado warning is identified for the Columbus campus, the Buckeye Alert System automatically sends severe weather alerts to students, faculty and staff. An expiration time for the tornado warning is included in that alert. Information also will be shared via the Ohio State app and X (formerly Twitter) @OSU_EMFP.
During a tornado warning, Campus Area Bus Service (CABS) will suspend all routes, and drivers are trained to proceed immediately to the next stop with shelter. Passengers should immediately seek shelter in a nearby building or low-lying area, when possible, and remain sheltered-in-place until the tornado warning has expired. Drivers will not resume their routes until the tornado warning has expired.
