Ride CABS on Campus

The Campus Area Bus Service (CABS) is a free transit service provided by The Ohio State University Transportation and Traffic Management. CABS is dedicated to providing clean, reliable, and hassle-free transportation on and around Ohio State’s Columbus Campus.

COVID-19 Service Response

Safety remains our top priority (learn more). CABS expanded service to offer additional options for students, faculty and staff. While capacity remains limited to promote physical distancing, the Campus Loop South resumed modified service in September 2020. In addition, the West Campus route expanded its daytime hours. These additions provide more convenient transportation options. Because of low ridership in the morning, CABS reduced frequencies from 5 a.m. - 7 a.m. for the Buckeye Lot Loop. All passengers should wear masks and are asked to enter from the front and exit from the rear door.

Service offerings are fluid and will continue to be updated to accommodate decisions regarding overall health, wellness and services on campus. Riders can track CABS buses in real-time via the Ohio State app. Individuals who are mobility impaired can continue to utilize Ohio State Paratransit Services.

How to Ride

Riding a CABS bus is easy. No ID or bus pass is needed to ride on regularly scheduled buses. Simply hop on the bus at any of the stops located on campus and throughout surrounding neighborhoods.

  • To improve congestion when entering and exiting the bus, please use the front door to enter and the back door to exit.
  • Please allow exiting passengers off the bus before boarding.
  • While on campus, CABS buses stops at every designed CABS bus stop. You do not need to press the stop bar or pull the cord.
  • For your safety, CABS buses are not permitted to pick up or drop off passengers outside of designated CABS bus stops.
  • If standing on a bus, hold on to vertical bars or seat back handles.
  • When crossing the street after exiting a bus, NEVER cross in front of the bus. Wait on the sidewalk until the bus has moved away and you have a clear line of sight of traffic in both directions.

Lost and Found

If you have left any personal items on a campus bus, please contact the TTM office at 614-292-7433. Our office hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. You also may send an email to ttminfo@osu.edu with a description of the item and any additional information (bus number, route, date, etc.) that would help us locate your item.

Items left on buses that are not retrieved immediately will be taken to the Transportation office the day the item was lost. Items will be held for 4 weeks.

TTM is not responsible for lost items.

Riding the Bus During Inclement Weather

The safety of the campus community is our number one priority. In the event of severe weather, Ohio State’s Department of Public Safety actively monitors and shares significant updates with the university community. If a tornado warning is identified for the Columbus campus, the Buckeye Alert System automatically sends severe weather alerts to students, faculty and staff. An expiration time for the tornado warning is included in that alert. Information also will be shared via the Ohio State app and Twitter @OSU_EMFP

During a tornado warning, Campus Area Bus Service (CABS) will suspend all routes, and drivers are trained to proceed immediately to the next stop, exit the bus, and lead passengers to a location where they can take shelter. Passengers should immediately seek shelter in a nearby building or low-lying area, when possible, and remain sheltered-in-place until the tornado warning has expired. Drivers will not resume their routes until the tornado warning has expired.
